Porto Vromi, Zakynthos

Porto Vromi is a little rocky inlet on the wooded west coast, the nearest departure point for boat trips out to the Navagio bay. It is more a jetty-and-taverna than a resort, a place to park, grab a coffee and step onto a boat rather than a day-long beach. The water in the inlet itself is clear and good for a quick swim while waiting. Sailing from here rather than the north makes for the shortest, cheapest run to the wreck, though it misses the Blue Caves that the northern route usually includes. Boats cruise into the bay to view the wreck from the water, as landing on the beach is currently closed.

Getting there: By road down a winding track from Maries village on the west coast.

Tip: Shortest, cheapest boat run to the Navagio bay; the northern boats bundle in the Blue Caves.
