Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach

Navagio, or Shipwreck Beach, is the image that sells Zakynthos: a smugglers' freighter that ran aground in 1980, now rusting on a crescent of white pebble-sand at the foot of towering limestone cliffs, with water in every shade of blue. It sits on the roadless north-west coast and can only be reached by sea — day boats and faster shuttles run from Porto Vromi and Agios Nikolaos. It gets busy at midday when the big boats converge, so go early or late; there's no shade and no facilities, so take water and sun cover. The clifftop view looking straight down on the wreck is a separate spot (see the viewpoint pin), not accessible from the sand.
Getting there: By boat only — shuttles and day trips from Porto Vromi (closest) or Agios Nikolaos.
Tip: Go early or late to dodge the midday boat crowds. No shade or facilities on the sand — bring water.
